Broadband
Broadband
Most, if not all, of Formby has broadband connectivity available to it either via cable or ADSL.
ADSL
Formby's local BT exchange is LCFOM which is a market 3 exchange. Market 3 means that there are at least 3 different broadband providers that you can choose from.
Most residents can expect to get a stable 3Mbps or higher connection, although this will largely depend on your distance from the exchange, which is located on Priesthouse Lane. This means that those on the east side of Formby should expect higher connection speeds to those on the west side, potentially up to around 20Mbps, although this can vary based on many different factors including the quality of wiring in your house and the quality of your telephone line.
AOL, O2/Be Broadband, Sky, Tiscali and TalkTalk are all popular ADSL ISPs that operate in the Formby area.
Cable
Some of Formby, most notably the east side of town, has cable connectivity which should, in a lot of cases, enable high-speed broadband access - usually of a greatly higher speed than that of ADSL. It is often preferred over ADSL in the areas in which it is available.
There is currently no available time-frame for getting the rest of Formby enabled and it is unlikely that streets on the west side of the railway tracks will get enabled in the near future.
Virgin Media operate in Formby in those areas that are enabled for cable.
